Luxorr

The Luxembourg “Institut des réviseurs d’entreprises” (hereafter “IRE”) has concluded a framework agreement on the use of copyright by their members.

The contract has been signed between IRE and LUXORR (Luxembourg Organization for Reproduction Rights), the management company of copyrights and lending of protected written works and pictorial fixed.

This tool allows IRE to legalize reprographic reproduction of text and images protected from traditional media (books, press…) and electronic (internet), respectively the right of reproduction by scanning newspaper articles in the form of a panorama news broadcast on intranet.

The agreement allows IRE members:

  • to legalise the use of copyright,
  • to show their respect to the creativity and innovation,
  • to obtain legal security in a sensitive area,
  • they can use both national and international repertoire of rights,
  • to be informed on developments in the field of copyright,
  • and finally benefit from preferential tariffs for use.

The origin of the agreement dates back to the legal obligations of companies, government departments, organizations and other public and private users for copyright, as defined in the European Directive of May 22, 2001 on the harmonization of certain aspects of the law on copyright and related rights in the information society, in the directive of April 29, 2004 on the enforcement of intellectual property rights as well as in the law of 18 April 2001 on the rights of copyright and databases in Luxembourg (as subsequently amended).

The scope of the agreement derives from the growing global importance - economic, social and cultural - of the protection of intellectual rights and intellectual property in general and copyright in particular in the information society and emerging knowledge and the European Union Lisbon strategy. In this context, it is useful to recall that the European Union has announced a strengthened criminal element in the event of infringement on intellectual property and to intensify cooperation in this field with the United States of America.
